National Events- 

  •  Tripura police have registered a case against four Supreme Court lawyers under the stringent UAPA and various sections of IPC for allegedly promoting communal disharmony with their social media posts about the recent violence targeting Muslims, a senior official said on Friday.

  •  Regulating blood insulin levels may even help lower the risk of getting Covid-19, researchers from Japan said after studying the movement of a protein called GRP78 that helps the Covid-19 causing virus to bind to and enter cells.

  •  The Government has cut the basic duty on Crude Palm Oil, Crude Soyabean Oil and Crude Sunflower Oil from 2.5 per cent to nil in a bid to rein in the continuous rise in the cooking oil prices since past one year.

  • The Government has no proposal to extend distribution of free ration via the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) beyond November 30 in view of recovery in the economy and good disposal of food grains in the open market. 

  • With the growing strategic importance of the Indian Ocean Region(IOR) and China’s increased maritime presence there, navy chiefs of 12 countries of the region will review the entire gamut of maritime issues in a three-day conclave in Goa starting November 7.

  •  Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi on Friday said Japan will step up military cooperation with Germany in the Indo-Pacific region as he welcomed a port call by the first German warship to visit Japan in about 20 years.

  •   At least five workers died after a fire swept through a show factory in Old Dhaka on Friday.

  •  The Navy said Thursday it fired the two senior officers of a nuclear-powered attack submarine that was damaged in an underwater collision last month in the South China Sea. A sailor who served as a senior enlisted adviser to the commander and the executive officer was also removed from his position.

  • Croatian authorities will limit gatherings and widen the use of Covid-19 passes to curb soaring infections after the numbers of infected people hit new records again on Friday.  

  • A citizen journalist jailed for her coverage of China’s initial response to Covid in Wuhan is close to death after going on hunger strike, her family said, prompting renewed calls from rights groups for her immediate release.

Economy – 

  •  The sudden cut in excise duty and value-added tax on petrol and diesel on Diwali eve by the Centre and the Goa government has resulted in a loss of around Rs 6 crore for dealers of the two fuels in the state, a senior official from the industry said

  •  The IMF has welcomed India's announcement at the COP26 summit on new targets to increase reliance on renewables and reduce the carbon intensity of its economy, including to adopt a net zero target by 2070.

  •  Edible oil prices in the major retail markets across the country have declined by Rs 5-20 per kg after various measures, including an import duty cut, by the Government, Food Secretary Sudhansu Pandey said on Friday.
