  • 1837 – Canadian journalist and politician William Lyon Mackenzie calls for a rebellion against the United Kingdom in his essay "To the People of Upper Canada", published in his newspaper The Constitution.

National Events- 

  •  Almost four crore senior citizens have been forced to pay full fare for their travel since the railways suspended their concessions due to the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020, a RTI has revealed.

  •  Surrendered women Naxals in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district have turned entrepreneurs by launching a floor cleaner phenyl thanks to the welfare initiatives of the local police. According to the Gadchiroli Police, 11 former Maoists, including ten female and one male, were trained in manufacturing phenyl and they have started their own business.

  • There is a presumption among many that child abuse is limited to families that are poor, but in reality it is as much evident in prosperous families too, Union minister Smriti Irani said on Sunday. 

  •  A radio-collared adult tigress from the Sanjay Tiger Reserve was allegedly killed by poachers through electrocution in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli district, an official said on Sunday.

  • The National Green Tribunal has directed the Railway to ensure that tracks are not used for defecation and waste water disposal from habitation nearby.

International Events- 

  •  Dutch police have arrested more than 30 people during unrest in The Hague and other towns in the Netherlands that followed an " orgy of violence " the previous night at a protest against coronavirus restrictions.

  •  Poland's leader on Sunday warned against more possible migrant pressures on the European Union's border with Belarus, this time coming from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke in Vilnius following talks with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte about ways of solving the "very difficult situation" at the borders of EU members with Belarus. He was on a one-day tour of meetings with the prime ministers of EU members Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which have also been hit by the migrant pressures.

  •  Outgoing Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa may not resort to coup as he is likely to be accommodated post-retirement as commander of the proposed joint task force for protection of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) or Turkmenistan — Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline for which India is yet to accord approval.

  •  Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his government will support Chinese businesses in Pakistan on a priority basis as he directed the authorities to immediately resolve the issues related to road connectivity and provision of utilities being faced by investors from China.

  • Massive protests have erupted in Pakistan's port city of Gwadar against unnecessary checkpoints, a severe shortage of water and electricity and threats to livelihoods from illegal fishing, part of a growing backlash in the country against China's multibillion-dollar belt and road projects.

  •  On a rare visit to Chelsea, owner Roman Abramovich was praised by Israeli President Isaac Herzog for using the Premier League leaders’ platform to campaign against antisemitism.

  •  Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson on Monday announced to acquire global Cloud-based communications provider Vonage for $6.2 billion

  •  On Nov. 16, Prosus had said core profits would be up 5% to 12% on a per-share basis for the six months that ended on Sept. 30.

  • The Windows developer team shared some insights on a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) post. Microsoft said that improving the responsiveness of Windows is top priority.

Economy – 

  •  The 30-share index was trading 435.74 points or 0.73 per cent lower at 59,200.27. Similarly, the Nifty fell 129.85 points or 0.73 per cent to 17,634.95.

  •  Amazon India on Sunday said over 70,000 Indian exporters, who are part of its Global Selling programme, will offer millions of 'Made in India' products to global customers during the annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) sale.

  • As many as 8.43 crore unorganised sector workers have registered on the e-Shram portal till November 20 and enrolments are rising steadily, the Labour Ministry said on Sunday.  

  • The combined market valuation of nine of 10 most valued companies declined by Rs 1,47,360.93 crore last week, with Reliance Industries emerging as the biggest laggard. 

  • The Petroleum Ministry's proposal to give away ONGC's biggest oil and gas fields to foreign companies has met with strong resistance from the officers union of the company, which has said that the Government should empower and give the company a level-playing field rather than giving away its prime assets to the private sector on a platter.

  • Three men were arrested by Noida Police for allegedly producing and selling fake steroids and supplements following a raid at Vishnauli on Saturday night. Products worth Rs 2 crore have been seized from the accused. 

  •  A Sikh organisation on Monday submitted a complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in Mumbai alleging that she had used derogatory language against the Sikh community in her social media post.

  •  A TMC youth leader died early on Sunday after being shot at by miscreants at Canning in South 24 Parganas district the previous evening. The ruling party blamed the BJP for the killing — a claim rejected by the opposition party.

  •  The Tamil Nadu Police arrested three persons, including two minors, Monday in connection with the murder of a Special Sub-Inspector near Tiruchirapalli district, a release from Pudukkotai police said.

  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers and the residents of Junnasandra and Green Village layout, which fall under the Mahadevapura constituency, took out a rally demanding the removal of encroachments around the storm water drains (SWD),which are one of the major reasons behind the flooding of the areas following rains.

  •  Renowned Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa passed away on Sunday following prolonged illness. She was 77. The folk artist breathed her last at a city hospital here, said family friend Bhupinder Singh Sandhu.
