National Events- 

  •  Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab on Saturday met NCP supremo Sharad Pawar in connection with the MSRTC strike that entered its seventh day.

  •  The police imposed curfew in the riot-hit town of Amravati in eastern Maharashtra on Saturday morning, after an irate mob of people went on a rampage vandalising several shops and private properties.

  •  With an eye on the 2022 Goa Assembly polls, the TMC on Saturday named Luizinho Faleiro as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to a Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal.  Faleiro, the former chief minister of Goa, ended his decades-long association with the Congress and joined the TMC in September.

  •  Alleging a multi-crore Bitcoin scam and its cover-up by the BJP Government in Karnataka, the Congress on Saturday demanded that an independent investigation be conducted into the matter by a Supreme Court-monitored SIT.

  • So far one lakh Genome and DNA sequencing has been done for Covid-19 by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) while five Covid biorepositories with 57,000 samples have been made available for the academia and industry for R&D and product development.

International Events- 

  •  Professor Bimal Patel, Vice-Chancellor of the Rashtriya Raksha University and Member of the National Security Advisory Board of India, has been elected to the International Law Commission for a five-year term, in a hard-fought election at the United Nations.

  •  Twenty Indian fishermen, who were released recently after languishing in Pakistan’s Landhi jail, will be transported to the Wagah border on Sunday to be handed over to the Indian authorities so that they can return home, a senior official said on Saturday.

  •  Forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognized government have withdrawn from the strategic port city of Hodeida, allowing the rebels to retake their positions, Yemeni officials and the UN said.

  • Sudanese security forces fired live ammunition and tear gas on Saturday to disperse protesters denouncing the military’s tightening grip on the country, killing at least one and wounding several, activists said. 

  • Negotiators at the this year’s UN climate talks  pored over fresh proposals on Saturday for sealing a deal that could credibly be said to advance worldwide efforts to tackle global warming.

  •  Insolvency professionals (IPs) should work on a resolution plan within a particular time frame as the value of stressed assets declines every day, an official of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) said on Saturday.Speaking at a webinar organised by MCC, whole time member of IBBI Navrang Saini said the IPs should be transparent and they should also ensure that the resolution plans are worked out in a time-bound manner."Value of a stressed asset declines every passing day. It has also been observed in some cases that the resolution value was almost close to the liquidation value," Saini, also the chairman of IBBI, said.A resolution was supposed to be completed within 180 days. In some cases, it had crossed more than 400 days, he said, adding that there are some hitches still left in the resolution process which will go away with time.
