• 2002 – During the Prestige oil spill, a storm bursts a tank of the oil tanker MV Prestige, which was not allowed to dock and sank on November 19, 2002, off the coast of Galicia, spilling 63,000 metric tons of heavy fuel oil, more than the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

• 2012 – A total solar eclipse occurs in parts of Australia and the South Pacific.

• 2013 – Hawaii legalizes same-sex marriage.

• 2013 – 4 World Trade Center officially opens.

• 2015 – Islamic State operatives carry out a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris, including suicide bombings, mass shootings and a hostage crisis. The terrorists kill 130 people, making it the deadliest attack in France since the Second World War

National Events- 

•  The Mizoram Government has partly halted construction activities along the border with Assam, following the Centre's directive to maintain a status quo at the inter-state boundary, a senior Home Department official said on Friday.

•  Dubbing Bollywood actress and Padma Shri recipient Kangana Ranaut as an “agent of hate, intolerance and rabidity”, Mahatma Gandhi’s great grand-son Tushar A Gandhi said here on Friday that  it was natural that a “vicious and petty person” like Kangana to feel that India got its freedom in 2014.

•  After Punjab it is the turn of Bengal to take a resolution against the alleged “attempt of the Centre to usurp States’ powers.” Come November 16, the ruling Trinamool Congress will bring a resolution in Bengal Assembly against the expansion of the jurisdiction of Border Security Force from 15 km to 50 km.

•  Intensifying counter terrorist operations, a joint team of security forces eliminated three terrorists including a close relative of  Adil Dar, suicide bomber who had rammed his four wheeler against the CRPF convoy near Lethpora in South Kashmir's Pulwama district killing 40  CRPF jawans, in two seprarate enclounters in Kulgam and Srinagar on Friday. So far 133 terrorists including several top commanders have been neutralized across Kashmir valley in different operations.

• While most people have been affected by Covid-19 infections, some have naturally resisted the infectious disease, despite clearly being exposed to the virus. According to researchers at the University College London, understanding this resistance mechanism can lead to the development of universal vaccines against the debilitating virus, said the study published in the journal Nature.

International Events- 

•  Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that the Gulf nation of Qatar has agreed to represent American interests in Afghanistan following the closure of the US Embassy in Kabul in late August.

•  Negotiators at this year’s UN climate talks in Glasgow appeared to be backing away from a call to end all use of coal and phase out fossil fuel subsidies completely, but gave poor countries hope for more financial support to cope with global warming.

•  A Taliban provincial spokesman says a bomb exploded in a mosque during Friday prayers, wounding at least 15 people in eastern Afghanistan, where Islamic State group militants have been waging a campaign of violence.

•  In yet another immigration-friendly move that would benefit thousands of Indian-American women, the Biden administration has agreed to provide automatic work authorisation permits to the spouses of H-1B visa holders, most of whom are Indian IT professionals.

• India has highlighted the need to focus on the emissions related to two and three wheelers alongside other vehicles as part of a zero emissions target at the COP26 summit in Glasgow.

Technology-

• Smartphone brand realme on Saturday announced its mainline expansion across India with a total of 200 exclusive stores. The stores are now operational and will enable users to experience all the latest realme products. 

•  Tech giant Apple has updated the Apple Store app for iOS with a new feature that makes it easier for users to save items to lists and share those lists with Apple

•  According to AppAnnie’s report, smartphone users in India spent 4.8 hours a day on average using various mobile apps in Q3 2021

•  Taiwanese chipmaking giant MediaTek has finally become the largest smartphone SoC maker this year globally, CEO Rick Tsai said.

• Android 12 stable release rolled out last month to eligible Pixel phones. However, other Android OEMs need to wait a bit longer.

Economy – 

•  Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has a second and final payment from those who were issued 42.26 crore company shares in a rights issue. And to assist shareholders, it has re-activated WhatsApp Chatbot 7977111111.

•  Indian economy is back in action and it is clear from several indicators such as rising exports and increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the country, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday. He said that merchandise exports during April-October this fiscal stood at USD 232 billion and total FDI during the first four months of this fiscal rose by 62 per cent.

•  National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) registered a handsome rise in net profit for Q2 FY 21-22 at Rs 748 crore, posting a jump of 600% over Rs 107 crore achieved during corresponding period of last year. This is one of the strongest performance in a decade, with Net Profit soaring to Rs 1095 crore at half-yearly stage. The net profit has soared by 783% to Rs 1095 crore, as against Rs 124 crore for the corresponding period of previous year.

•  For the convenience of the Metro Railway commuters, Metro will run 272  daily services (136 UP & 136 DN) instead of 266  services from Monday to Friday from 07:00 hrs. to  22:30 hrs. w.e.f. 15.11. 2021 (Monday) .  Metro is going to run 06 additional daily services on weekdays. Out of these 272  services, 173  services (86 UP & 87 DN) will run in between Kavi Subhash and Dakshineshwar instead of 167  services (83 UP & 84 DN). During morning and evening peak hours, Metro will run services at an interval of 5 minutes.

• The 30-share BSE Sensex spurted by 767 points or 1.28 per cent to close at 60,686.69 points with 25 of its stocks ending with gains. The broader Nifty of the National Stock Exchange jumped by 229.15 points or 1.28 per cent to settle at 18,102.75, the highest closing level since October 27. Gains in IT, realty and energy stocks helped indices break three-day losing run.
