National Events- 

• Bengal Chief Minister on Friday arrived in Goa with a new message of camaraderie telling she too was Goa's daughter and "your sister" who had come to take part in the development of the tiny State. 

•  Attacking both the TRS and the BJP for the “brazen violation of the model code of conduct (MCC)”, the Congress on Thursday alleged that both the parties tried to influence voters by distributing money and gifts, obstructing the conduct of a free and fair election.

•  With the Government opening the doors of the elite National Defence Academy (NDA) for women cadets, Army Chief General M M Naravane said on Friday it is expected they are welcomed with the same sense of fair play and professionalism as Indian armed forces are known world over.

•  In a significant development towards self-reliance in niche technology, the DRDO and IAF team jointly on Friday flight tested indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb successfully from an aerial platform. The bomb can hit a target between a range of 50 kms and 150kms.

• Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV),which protects young children from pneumonia, meningitis and blood infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, has been brought under the ambit of the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).

International Events- 

• For years, Zebulon Simentov branded himself as the “last Jew of Afghanistan,” the sole remnant of a centuries-old community. He charged reporters for interviews and held court in Kabul’s only remaining synagogue. He left the country last month for Istanbul after the Taliban seized power. 

•  Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Friday greeted by a jubilant and cheering Indian diaspora, who recited hymns and chanted his name to welcome him on his visit to Italy.

•  South Korea will launch a project next month to develop a homegrown naval interception system designed to protect warships from hostile aircraft and missiles, the state arms procurement agency said Friday.

•  The US Secretary of State Tony Blinken announced on Thursday that the United States will roll out USD144 million in a bid to help the people of Afghanistan who have been facing a grave humanitarian crisis since the atrocious Taliban takeover.

• An unprecedented meeting of Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) is taking place in Rome to coincide with the G20 summit to expose China’s human rights abuses before the international community.

Economy – 

•  Lubes maker Castrol India has reported 9 per cent dip in profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 185.9 crore for the third quarter ended September 2021. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 204.6 crore in the July-September quarter of previous fiscal

•  The country’s foreign exchange reserves declined by USD 908 million to USD 640.1 billion in the week ended October 22, RBI data showed. In the previous week ended October 15, the reserves had increased by USD 1.492 billion to USD 641.008 billion.

•  India is expected to have the highest ever horticulture production of 331.05 million tonnes in 2020-21, as compared to 320.47 million tonnes over previous year.

•  The eight infrastructure sectors of coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity had grown by 0.6 per cent in September 2020, as per the data released by the commerce and industry ministry.

• The Union Government’s fiscal deficit has worked out to be Rs 5.26 lakh crore or 35 per cent of the budget estimates at the end of September 2021, as per the data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on Friday
