National Events- 

  •  Attacking the BJP and its ideological fountainhead RSS, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday asked whether they have an answer to the problem of rising inflation and fuel prices that has badly hit the people of the country.

  •  With its leaders in States like Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan washing dirty linen in public, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday made it clear that strengthening the organisation must override “personal ambitions” and emphasised the “paramount need for discipline and unity” for both collective and individual success. 

  • The Congress and the Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Tuesday latched on to former Goa Governor and incumbent Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik’s reported comments alleging corruption by the BJP-led State Government during the Covid pandemic and demanded a time-bound investigation under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge into the charges. 

  •  As China flexes its muscles in the Indo-Pacific region, top security experts will discuss its geopolitical ramifications in the three-day Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) starting Wednesday. The online seminar organised by the Navy will also review both opportunities and challenges that arise within the strategically important region.

  • Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday that a Government panel of experts was looking into a Delta coronavirus subvariant, AY.4.2, that is believed to have triggered an increase in the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the United Kingdom.

  •  Ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi testified for the first time in a junta court on Tuesday, four months after being put on trial by the military, a source with knowledge of the case told AFP.

  •  China continues to bully its neighbours to try to coerce them into behaviour that is more in keeping with its national security or economic interests, the Pentagon said on Monday.

  • Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri announced that he will meet European Union diplomat Enrique Mora on Wednesday in Brussels. 

  •  A top UN official has urged the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Israeli Defense Forces to respect the sanctity of the Blue Line, a border demarcation between the two nations published by the world body in 2000, in furtherance of peace and stability.

  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stepped back from his threat to declare the Ambassadors of 10 countries, including the US, Germany and France, as “persona non grata” after they made a joint statement for the release of a jailed businessman.

  • Growth in Microsoft's cloud computing business helped push its profit up 24% in the July-September quarter over the same time last year. 

  •  Samsung India Electronics has registered a 39 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 4,040.9 crore even as its revenue from operations remained flat at Rs 75,886.3 crore

  •  Sensors will reportedly be ready to use in 2022, which means the Apple Watch Series 8 could get them.

  • Xiaomi has announced ‘Diwali with Mi’, exclusive offline offers valid till November 6. Along with this, Xiaomi India also unveiled an exclusive initiative - “Har din Diwali"

Economy – 

  •  The rupee snapped its two-session losing streak to settle 12 paise higher at 74.96 against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking a positive trend in domestic equities and losses in crude oil prices.

  •  The Central Government proposes to operationalise the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as a private sector-led, non-profit company to bring focus on ethical and responsible behavior while providing for trust, rigorous norms of governance, accountability, and transparency.

  •  The RBI on Tuesday said it has imposed a Rs 90 lakh penalty on Vasai Vikas Sahakari Bank, Maharashtra, for non-compliance with certain directions, including on classification of loans as NPAs, and other directions.

  •  The 30-share BSE Sensex opened on a firm footing but ran into rough weather in afternoon trade, before staging a comeback to close 383.21 points or 0.63 percent higher at 61,350.26. On similar lines, the broader NSE Nifty surged 143 points or 0.79 percent to end at 18,268.40.

  • Banks have sanctioned loans worth Rs 11,168 crore to about 2 lakh borrowers under the credit outreach programme, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday. Under this programme, banks have been holding special camps across various parts of the country to sanction loans to eligible borrowers as per the prudential norms. Most of the banks have announced festival offers at concessional rates of interest and waived processing charges.
