National Events-

  •  The Taliban regime has appointed an expert in making sticky/magnetic bombs Ashraf Ghairat as Vice Chancellor of Kabul University. After Ghairat’s appointment, 70 faculty members have resigned from the University. Ghairat, 45, is only a graduate and has close links with Pakistani covert agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),and terror groups

  •  At least three people were killed Saturday afternoon when an Amtrak train that runs between Seattle and Chicago derailed in north-central Montana, toppling several cars onto their sides, authorities said.

  • Five Palestinian gunmen were killed in shootouts with Israeli security forces during a sweeping West Bank arrest operation cracking down on the Islamic militant group Hamas on Sunday.

However, Australia won the ODI series 2-1, with the multi-format series’ score line reading 4-2. The third and final ODI in Mackay went down to the wire but this time India held their nerves as they sealed a thrilling two-wicket win with just three balls to spare. Tall India pacer Jhulan Goswami hit the winning runs, lofting it straight for a four.

  •  South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced that it plans to start working on making neuromorphic chips that can mimic the human brain.

  • Google is withdrawing support for Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and several other applications from millions of smartphones.

Economy – 

  •  Eminent economist N R Bhanumurthy on Sunday said leading indicators are suggesting that the Indian economy is on recovery path and clearly moving out of the "dark clouds" brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

  •  Over 90 per cent of the Indian business leaders opined that the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to improve crisis management capabilities, says a survey by consultancy firm PwC India. 

  •  HDFC Bank on Monday said it has raised Rs 5,000 crore by issuing bonds on a private placement basis

  •  Sensex eased slightly but was still trading 245.62 points or 0.41 per cent higher at 60,294.09. Similarly, the Nifty surged 69.90 points or 0.39 per cent to 17,923.10.

  • Budget carrier SpiceJet, which had resorted to hourly-basis pay for pilots amid the pandemic, on Sunday, said it has introduced a new "interim fixed salary system" for captains and first officers. The airline said not only will pilot salaries "increase significantly" under the new pay structure but those who fly more than the stipulated minimum hours will be paid overtime.
