TCS PAPER ON 6th OCTOBER 2007

Hiii...

I’m Vindhya.I attended TCS off Campus drive for freshers (only CSE and IT Branches) held at Hyderabad on 6/7th October. TCS first opens up registration in the month of May but it conducts the exam only in the month of October (we need to have lots of patience!!).

For Off Campus drive we will have to write a written exam which comprises of 3 sets(X, Y, and Z). I heard  about 14,000 students (7000 students on 6th Oct  and abt  7000 students on 7th Oct)  had attended this exam  in Hyderabad.

The written test results were announced on 11th   Oct and only 2,338 students cleared the written exam. There was lots of competition; I would suggest u to score at least 52-55 in the written out of 82 questions. I got set X (brown color). I will post in the maximum questions I remember. There were total of 82 questions.

6 Fill in the blanks: It was on fungus (page117 12th edition Gre Barron’s book).I will type the complete passage. (The same question was asked in set Y or Z set too.)

Observe the dilemma of the fungus: it is a plant, but it possesses no chlorophyll. While all other plants put the suns energy to work for them combining the nutrients of ground and air into the body structure, the chlorophylless fungus must look elsewhere for an energy supply. It finds it in those other plants which, having received their energy free from the sun, relinquish it at some point in their cycle either to animals (like us humans) or to fungi.

In this search for energy the fungus has become the earth’s major source of rot and decay. Wherever you see mold forming on a piece of bread or a pile of leaves turning to compost, or a blown-down tree becoming pulp on the ground, you are watching a fungus eating. Without fungus action the earth would be piled high with the dead plant life of past centuries. In fact, certain plants which contain resins that are toxic to fungi will last indefinitely; specimens of the redwood for instance can still be found resting on the forest floor centuries after having been blown down.

(Note: The underlined sentences were the blanks to be filled by choosing them from the options given.)
