Candidate-Experiences
I am sathishkumar. R from Muthayammal Engineering college. I didn't get any hall ticket from TCS to attend the off-campus drive at MEC, Rasipuram on 28 & 29th August. Because that was conducted by Board of Apprenticeship TamilNadu. There was a crowd of around 300-400 candidates in each batch. On 28th there was 6 batch. There was only less than 15 candidates only cleared the first round upto 3rd batch. But in my batch 19 candidates were cleared the written test. I was one of them.
It was a online aptitude test contain 35 questions should be answered in 60 minutes. Because the page will automatically get expired after 60 mins. And your page will get logged out after some 4-5 mins in any questions. We faced 4 times this problem. So You have to answer as soon as possible in each question. The questions were based on logics and a aptitude only. There is no verbal questions asked for us. Some of them were aptitude and a few were analytical. The questions were like 10 to 12 lines. But actual question was from last 3 lines. So don't waste time for reading full question(only for aptitude, if all questions will be like that). In my batch the questions was same with my friends questions, but the values given in the problem and the answers were diffrered each other. So don't memorize the answers. All the candidates faced the time problem. So rush up. If don't find the answer go to next question immediately.
For every correct answer = +1 mark
And Every wrong answer = -0.33 mark (so dont answer all question.answer only if you know the answer 100%)
The computer based test had questions from:
Area and Perimeter, Probability (Many questions from this chapter only).
Problems on Ages & trains(Many questions from this chapter).
Pipes and Cisterns, Ratio and Proportion, permutation and combination and some logical questions
The will be option button called clue in the page where you can avail the clue for all question and formula. But you have to choose which formula for which question.
The questions are pretty lengthy but with all irrelevant statements. I remember one question where they told about a romantic story of Alice and Paul and then right at the end after 5-6 lines, they came up with a question on ages of Alice and Paul. I'd rather suggest everyone to start reading the question from where they find any numerical data.
I don't remember many questions but only a few (and that too not with exact numerical value). I'll share with you a few questions such that you can understand what the question asked for.
Question 1: There is a toy train that can make 10 musical sounds. It makes 2 musical sounds after being defective. What is the probability that same musical sound would be produced 5 times consecutively? (1 of )?
Answer: 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/32
32 will be the answer. (My friends got similar question with "3 times consecutively"; for that the answer would be 8)
Question 2: Peter and Paul are two friends. The sum of their ages is 35 years. Peter is twice as old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?
Luckily, I had this question twice. Initially I left it because of the confusing statement but when I got the same question second time with different names of the friends (Pooja and Prasad) then I gave a little extra time and solved it.
Answer: 20 years. I simply substituted the answers in the statement to find the best fit, because the statement in the question was pretty confusing.
Question 3: The ages of two friends is in the ratio 6:5. The sum of their ages is 66.After how many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
Answer: 12 years.
Question 4: (There was a long story, I'll cut short it). There are 5 materials to make a perfume: Lilac, Balsalmic, Lemon, Woody and Mimosaic. To make a perfume that is in demand the following conditions are to be followed: Lilac and Balsalmic go together. Woody and Mimosaic go together, Woody and Balsalmic never go together. Lemon can be added with any material. (Actually they had also mentioned how much amount of one can be added with how much quantity of the other; but that's not needed for the question.) All of the following combinations are possible to make a perfume except:
1) Balsalmic and Lilac
2) Woody and Lemon
3) Mimosaic and Woody
4) Mimosaic and Lilac
Answer: Mimosaic and Lilac. I have made the question here really easy to understand. But the actual question was in a twisted language and it was difficult to find the answer. It took me some time to get to the answer.
Question 5: A girl has to make pizza with different toppings. There are 8 different toppings. In how many ways can she make pizzas with 2 different toppings.
Answer: 8 * 7 = 56
Question 6: A triangle is made from a rope. The sides of the triangle are 25 cm, 11 cm and 31 cm. What will be the area of the square made from the same rope?
Answer: 280.5625
Question 7: What is the distance between the z-intercept from the x-intercept in the equation ax+by+cz+d=0. (I do not remember the values of a,b,c,d)
Question 8: An athlete decides to run the same distance in 1/4th less time that she usually took. By how much percent will she have to increase her average speed?
Answer: 33.33%
Question 9: A horse chases a pony 3 hours after the pony runs. Horse takes 4 hours to reach the pony. If the average speed of the horse is 35 kmph, what s the average speed of the pony? (This question was really long with loads of irrelevant statement)

Answer: 7 hours

These are a few questions that I could recall. I made through the aptitude round by attempting 25 questions. Next was HR Interview Round.
There were so many panel in that Round. I got general HR round panel and cleared easily. They asked me every word in my resume. So guys please put anything what you know fully.
Two of my batch mate got stress interview and full technical HR. So be prepared for any thing.
There were 2600 candidates appeared for the interview. 66 were cleared the written test and finally 52 candidates got on spot offer letter. Thank god. Myself also one them. So don't worry about HR round prepare focused on written. Because all the HR were so friendly. Keep smile through out the interview. don't get tensed for anything.
Good Luck guys.
