Hi Friends,
This is Gautam from Pragati Engineering college, surampalem, sharing my experience in being a part of TCS family which was a thriller movie in my life, because i never expected that i will be selected. I new most of the students will have confidence that written exam will be tough and will be eliminated in written itself. So i also have the same confidence that i will never crack the written exam, before this TCS i cleared CSC written exam, so you people those who have confidence like me and very much frustrated with placements and not getting into any company because of this written exam this experience may help you 1/10 times remaining 9 is your part ok lets see my movie of my life.
It was 10th September I received a mail from Mr. Ranodeep of TCS inviting for TCS written test, as ususal my confidence came into picture that i will quit in written and already my friends who already attempted also said that Questoins are very lengthy and difficult to answer it, so my confidence grew from 50 to 80 percent but remaining 20 percent confidence grown after seeing the expereinces from "frehersworld.com" written by some of my friends and one of my friend also cleared the written exam but he rejected in Managerial round bad luck he was shoked and he didn't know why he rejected but he gave me some valuable suggestions which helped me a lot.
TCS exam pattern:
This time in TCS 2010 recruitment they changed the pattern, new pattern is 35 questions 60 mins for which 1 mark for correctly answering -1/3(-0.33) for wrong one's. Don't guess and dont put nearest answer just if your confident then only attempt it , I confidently attempte 25 in which 24 are correct i am proud of myself, i never believed because you already know my confidence.
Tips to crack the written:
1. Read the question from last 2 lines if not able to get go to last 3 lines, bottom up approach is more importatnt because relevent information about question is available at last lines only.
2. Topics to be concentrated in R.S Aggarwal uncle's book
a) Pipes and cisterns (Only concentrate on methods like simulaneus filling taps and sequentital filling time taken and size of tub )2 problems
b) Time and Distance (Average distance problems formula-2xy/(x+y) x-first speed y-second speed -1 prob and d=s*t simple problem only 1 so total 2 problems
c) Numerical calculations simple problem based on (A+B)^2=A^2+B^2+2AB AND (A+B)^3
But not directly he will ask it using lilavathi story telling the concept at last saying that product of two numbers is something and sum of two numbers is something find sum of squres of that number A+B is given AB is given solve it using A+B whole square formal and get sum of squares 2 problems.
d) Ages problems 2 problems
e) Surface area and formulas on geomentry 1 problem
f) Permutation -2 problems
g) Probability -2 problems
h) Blood relations -2 problems same problems from R.S uncle(Aggarwal)
Just know the concept to solve and use the 1st tip its enough you will be able to solve 16 questions 3 puzzles are there which i will be sharing all the types.
I remembered only these questions. I attempted 25 questions.
1) Two tanks A and B. A fills 1 ltr/1 hour B fills 10, 20, 30 per hour. If this is (passage unnecessary). If 1/4th tank of B takes 15 hours to fill how much it time will to take to fill complete tank?
2) Out of 7 children the youngest is boy then find the probability that all the remaining children are boys
3) The three sides of a triangle are given. 16, 14, 21 cms and this triangle is conveted into a square. So what will be the area of the square generated?
4) An equation of the form 4x+6y-2z=32 . Find the difference between x intercept and z intercept?
Ans: x/a+y/b+z/c=
5) A Toy train can make 10 sounds sound changes after every 4 mins, now train is defective and can make only 2 sounds. Find probability that same sound is repeated 5 times consecutively (1 out of)?
6) 20men and 20 women are there, they dance with each other, is there possibilty that 2 men are dancing with same women and vice versa.
7) 10 people are there, they are shaking hands together, how many hand shakes possible, if they are in no pair of cyclic sequence.
8) In school there are some bicycles and 4wheeler wagons. One Tuesday there are 234 wheels in the campus. How many bicycles are there?
9) A father has 7 penny’s with him and 1 water melon is for 1p, 2 chickoos for 1p, 3 grapes foe 1p. He has three sons. How can he share the friuts equally?
10) A piza shop made pizzas with to flavours. In home there are ‘9’ different flavors, in that ‘2’ flavors are taken to made piza in how many ways they can arrange?
(Logic: NcM, N= 9, M=2 )
11) One organization, material, labor and maintenance are in the ratio of 4:6:7, if the material cost is: 272, what is the total cost?
12) 4 years before Paul’s age is 3times the Alice age and the present age of Paul is 6times the Alice. What is the presents Paul’s age?
13) In a question, last part has, the ages of two people has the ratio of 6:5 and by adding the numbers we get 55, after how many years the ratio would be 8:7?
14) In a room (unwanted stuff) Sports readers, 10 tables, 4 chairs per table, each table has different number of people then how many tables will left without at least one person?
15) Question based on V=I*R but in dis question most of data given are ridiculas like volume, density, length, height similar long story are given
16) Peter and Paul are two friends. The sum of their ages is 42 years. Peter is twice as old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?
17) A horse chases a pony 2 hours after the pony runs. Horse takes 4 hours to reach the pony. If the average speed of the horse is 81 kmph, what s the average speed of the pony? (This question was really long with loads of irrelevant statement)
18) Difference between two numbers is 4 and their product is 17. Then find the sum of their squers?
19) A, B, C, D, E are there among A, B, C are boys and D, E are girls D is to the left of A and no girl sits at the middle and at the extemes. Then what is the order of their sittings.
20) Some ages problem, then asked the answer in binary.
21) Some denominations question like you have 31 paise, and ticket cost is between 1 to 31, you have to give the exact denominations for the ticket. Find all the no. of possible denominations you may prdict and you must be left wid atleast few paise?
22) Direction problems. A man goes 50 km North, then turned left walked 40 km, then turned right? In which direction is he in?
Technical Round(TR): 28th Sept
My friends faced simple C programs and briefly about project. Now It's my turn, he asked me about my self and about my main project nearly 35 minutes and 2 simple Technical questions.
You should prepare C programs like reverse of a number, palindrome, fibonacci, even number series, odd number series etc. and also data structure concepts.
MR round: Next day
This round is horrible for me, I faced some Technical questions here also.
He asked some basic concepts, i answered those questions correctly and confidently but he argued with me that your answers are wrong then i told my answers are correct sir, then he gave a horrible statement i.e "You think that I am not able to write even a simple C program also" it was strange to me but i managed the situation. After some time he said that
"Ok Mr. Gautam even you are not pefect in basic cinsepts how can i select you? So you can go now try again after 6 months". He repeated this for 4 times, each time i smiled and justifying my answer, he again repeated the same for 5th time too strange for me, at that time i get up from the chair and again with a smile i asked that "Shell I wait at out side sir?" then with a smile he said that "Ok Gautam you are promoted to H.R round".
I was very happy after clearing the M.R round. I proceeded to H.R round with a lot of confidence.
H.R Round:
Here also i faced some Technical questions and H.R asked me that,
1) Tell me about your self?
2) Tell me any 2 incidents you want to share with me?
3) Why your % decreased in B.Tech? (As i had 77% in diploma, 73% in X , 68 in my B.Tech)
4) Your strengths? (very frequnet qiestion but be prepared)
5) Your family?
6) How you ranked your self compared with your friends?
Like this my H.R completed.
It was a nice conversation between me and HR they said they will inform me within a 10 days. I got a mail that in 9 days it self statin that "you clered TCS selection process". That is my movie story. I got offer letter on13th Oct. By gods, fresherworld.com, shakkus, my friends, and myself grace i am one of TCS family.
