                                                 NMDC Candidate's Experiences

Post: Executive trainee (electrical)
Date of examination: 31st may, 2015
Place: Hyderabad

By now, you should be aware of the pattern of the examination, Well if not, check out here along with their strategic plan to study,
(1.) Domain knowledge- 100 marks PLAN OF STUDY: Practice more MCQs from various publications,or else you can download them as pdf files from various websites ,as simple as that..!!

(2.) Quantitative aptitude(elementary mathematics) - 25 marks PLAN OF STUDY : All you need to be is thorough with the basic formulae for " time and work", " pipes and cisterns", " ages", " profit & loss " ..etc...

(3.) Logical reasoning-25 marks PLAN OF STUDY: Don't get panic on seeing the questions, stay calm and think for 5 seconds, you will get the logic behind perplexive questions.
* There are ample chances of encountering questions such as "family relationships" , " number series, Odd one out"..etc.
* In order to make you feel difficult , they may pose questions as passages.
* Nothing to worry, just read the passage very carefully, and there you go, you can answer three questions in less than 15 seconds. There lies the secret of talent in answering the passages.
* But , do not be too overconfident in drawing conclusions from the passages.

(4.) English-25 marks PLAN OF STUDY : This seems to be one of the deciding section of whole paper in addition to the domain knowledge paper, well as you are aware english language being vast in nature will always be difficult to score full marks, but dude, who asked you to score full??? So, here comes our strategy to workout, just focus on your areas of strength in this language. It is advisable to prepare the topics such as " CORRECTION OF SENTENCES" , " CORRECT PHRASE REPLACEMENT" ,and prepare more number of comprehensive passages as you can save time in case you read and answer them correctly as fast as you can. Basic Synonyms and Antonyms are to been revised atleast for once, because if it comes then it saves our grace marks.

(5.) General awareness PLAN OF STUDY : Mostly, every competitative exam will include this section as it seems to be very responsible for any citizen to know about his world around or atleast headlines.
* Refer thoroughly the news articles and current affairs within three months prior to exam date. You can leave news articles in the week of exam, as by that time exam papers would have been printed. In that duration, revise them thoroughly. It's really very very important, kindly do not neglect. There are many websites that provide you current affairs in an organised way, but remember the best way is to prepare your own notes..!! That's it about the syllabi and plan of prep..

Now a brief on my exam experience :

1. English (Que 1-25) As soon as I open my question paper booklet I came across the choose the correct phrase questions, there were five questions , which were seemed to be very tough. Then comes correct the sentences , which were confusing a bit, next comes 5+5 synonyms and antonyms, which were moderately easy, and two passages, with 4/5 questions each.Even passage questions were not that easy to score, The difficult section in the whole paper is this one itself.Well it may not be same every year , right??

2. Logical reasoning(51-75) Logical reasoning mainly included questions on coding-decoding (3-4),arrangements, odd one out(2-3 que). Well , there is a point to discuss over here. Its about the passages in this section,(he gave passages on relations and pie chart) They seem to be time taking on seeing them, but they are not at all..! Just spend complete dedicated 2 minutes of your time on the passages and deduce your conclusions on a side of your question paper. Then what else, you can answer all the 3/4 questions at a stretch in a less than 20 seconds. Astonishingly he gave pictorial perception questions also, but only two. On a whole, this section is a good scoring one.

3. Elementary mathematics (75-100) This section deals with the questions from expected sections, such as ages, time and work, pipes, boats & streams, profit loss, stocks, probability. You can start answering the paper with this section provided you are good enough with math.

4. General awareness (26-50) details about this section is given by Mr. Suman bhattacharya in his review on nmdc exam in this website, you can see it in this page, https://p3.placement.freshersworld.com/placement-papers/NMDC/Placement-Paper-Computer-Science-Engineering-CS-48080

5. Domain knowledge(101-200) A stretch of 100 questions seems to sound like a big heck.., right?? Well, it is mandatory to answer questions about our domain knowledge dude.!! Unless you revise all the topics presribed in the advt of NMDC, this can be tough, In exam the questions posed are not too simple, and not too tough. They just require your memory power of remembering the facts and formulae about ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. The sample list of topics from which questions were posed can be seen below,
* I observed around 3 to 5 questions were given on RLC circuits, such as bandwidth , quality factor with respective values of inductance, capacitance , frequency given.
* Very few questions were asked on ELECTRONICS.
* Even machines were least touched
* Power electronics and Network theory were really given ample preference in whole paper.
At the the end , it wouldn't be the same every time, For those who attended SAIL MT recruitment exam prior to this ,should least expect the range of difficulty of this exam. Sail was more easier than this one. I wrote this review, as I faced difficulty while searching for previous papers and preparation tips in the journey of my preparation. So, friends, those who read my review, kindly post your reviews too after you attend the exam next year..

THANK you..!!!
