MRF Placement Procedure -MRF technical written test questions
First written test is conducted with approximately about 30 questions for about 30 mins. The test paper has six divisions like Power Plant, Machine design, Nuclear Engineering, MT, Thermodynamics, Automobiles (5 questions each division). They mentioned that the cut off is 50% (15 marks). But in order to cover better filtration they increased the cut off at the final moment. This round had a better filtration. Questions were based on the following portions of the above mentioned divisions.
Round 1 Technical Written Test
· Nuclear fuel based questions
· Gears and transmission systems

MRF Round 2Aptitude/IQ Test
This round consists of 4 continuous rounds one after other without any elimination. The rounds are
· IQ Test (written test)
· Group discussion
· Day plan exercise
· Personality profiling round
1. IQ Test (written test):
This is a better test which is based on testing the studentâs numerical ability. It consist of about 25 questions need to complete in 30 mins. It can be easily cracked if students were good in numerical problems. The problems seem to be more complicated but it is easily solvable. So my suggestion âImprove your Numerical ability by practicing itâ
2. Group discussion:
Initially HR asked us to introduce ourselves with family back ground .It is not like a normal GD. The topic is a numerical problem which is somewhat confusing and seems to have multiple answers. The question goes on like thisâ¦.
âA man goes to a sweet shop and buy sweets for Rs 38/-. He gives 50 Rupee note to the shopkeeper who doesnât have change. So he moves to the nearby shop, gives that 50 Rs note gets the change and settled the customer. The next day the owner of nearby shop finds that 50Rs note is a fake one and reclaims his 50 rupees from the sweet shopkeeper. Now what is the total loss to the sweet shopkeeper?â
We were given 2 mins for reading the question and preparation. Then HR gave 10 mins for discussion and asked us to start the discussion. We had a great discussion and all members came out with same answer so I decided to give a different answer. Most of them opposed me so I got good chance to speak. Then a member in our group concluded the discussion. The thing in this discussion is that HR didnât expect the right answer he observed how the students analyzing the problem in different angle and how he is justifying it.
3. Day plan exercise:
It was a different round which is in order to check our planning ability. It lasts for 25 mins. They gave us a sheet containing a problemâ¦.
âYou are an employee in a tyre manufacturing company. You caught cold last night and today you are having a busy day.â
After that they gave different timing with different work like during your work one labour got injured you have to replace the labour, suddenly at the same time you are asked to meet your superior to update your status. After 5 min you get a call from your mother that she was very unwell. And 2 machine breakdown, you have to do maintenance work. We have to plan that day according to the time constraints.
4. Personality profiling round:
In this round they provide us sheet containing 30 questions that reveal our personality. It is not a right/wrong question. You simply have to agree /strongly agree/disagree/strongly disagree. The questions were like this
· Will you have fun during work time
· Are you a tempered person
They asked us to give us the truth since there is no right/wrong. It was interesting.
After all this continuous round HR said they announce the result later. It took almost 2 weeks to know the result since they visited another 6 colleges. And based on overall ranking they selected the candidates for final interview at the MRF office.
Round 3 Technical Interview
They provided us a date of interview at the office at Greams Road, Chennai. Totally 50 students from all over Tamil Nadu were selected. Two members were there at interview panel. HR mainly concentrated on the final year project and mini project. HR was around 70 years old and he noted many things ie Body language, way of answering the questions etc. After project the begun to ask some basic questions which were piece of cake. This was an elimination round and they only selected around 10 students.
Round 4 Personal Interview
This is just a round of formality where there was no elimination. They asked questions that reveal the family background. They also had the sheet of personality profiling test and asked few questions from that. Thatâs all. The selected candidates were informed with the date of joining.
