Mahindra Group Candidate-Experiences

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. Candidate Experience

Mahindra & Mahindra had come to our campus for placement. I applied for the company, being a mechanical engineer I was really excited to be applying at such a big company. This was how the entire process went:
The Selection Process was like this:

Round I: Aptitude Test

The aptitude test had three parts:

a. Technical test: Had about half a century questions. Questions based on our course like SOM, engineering materials, etc.

b. Automobiles and farm-sector knowledge: Questions on agricukture, farming, different types of crops, harvesting methods, modern farming methods, etc. Also questions on automobile GK such as history, major developments, major companies, basic types of engines, etc. This is the trickiest section as it has questions requiring general knowledge of cars, their logos, their country of origin, recent trends in automobiles, questions regarding rpm of a tractor, irrigation setups in India( Yes, they do ask you that).

c. Verbal and quants knowledge: Questions to test your verbal skills, vocabulary etc. Quants section had puzzles, for example
In a knockout tennis tournament , there were 2786 players playing. How many matches are needed to get the winner?
A certain number of men can finish a piece of work in 10 days. If however there were 10 men less it will take 10 days more for the work to be finished. How many men were there originally?
The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a school is 3:2. Out of these 10% of the boys and 25% of girls are scholarship holders. What is the % of students who are not scholarship holders?

Round II: Group Discussion

There were two parts in this too:

a. Situation based: We were given a situation and were asked to discuss among ourselves and reach a consensus about what should be done in that situation. It was a thirty minute discussion.

b. Impromptu round: We were all given a picture and were asked to make a story connecting our pictures. Again of thirty minutes.

Round III: The Interview

It was more of a technical interview. They asked my background, then asked about some of my subjects. We discussed engineering materials a bit, cause that was my favourite subject. We also spoke about Formula SAE and my participation in the competition. These are some of the questions I was asked,

--> First they start off by asking you about yourself. Have something that is short yet powerful prepared in your mind. They don’t wanna hear your life story, they just want to hear what sets you apart from everyone else.
--> The next question was what do I know about the company. So find out a bit about the latest happenings of the company before going.
--> The next question was about my future plans, what would I be doing say five years from now. This is to find out if you are going to be committed to the company or not. Answer carefully.
--> Next few questions were about my management style, work ethics etc. Answer according to yourself.
--> Another loaded question was what is more important to me, money or work? There is no right answer to this, I said work. They won’t mind if you say money either cause it is equally important.
--> Next was if I had enough money to retire right now, would I do it? I said no, cause I wouldn’t know what to do with myself then. But yes I do wanna retire one day with enough money.
--> Lastly they asked me if I had any questions for them. Have some questions prepared as that gives a good impression. About the general working of the company, type of projects you will be assigned on, etc.

Overall it was a pleasant experience, they went about it very efficiently.
