X=31(Sure)
3.A big cube painted red on all the sides. It was cut into 27 smaller cubes by 6 straight lines. How many of the smaller cubes painted on all 3 sides, on 2 sides, on 1 side and no faces painted? (8 marks)
Solution:
Let n be the side of cube.
Sides of cube = 3 X 3 X 3
No faces painted=(n-2) X (n-2) X (n-2)
=(3-2) X (3-2) X (3-2) = 1(Sure)
1 side painted = 6 X (n-2) X (n-2)
=6(Sure)
2 sides painted = 12 X (n-2)
= 12(Sure)
All the 3 sides painted = 8(Sure)
4.There is a five-digit number. The fifth digit is one fourth of the third digit and one half of the fourth digit. Third digit is one half of the first digit. Second digit is 5 more than the fifth digit. What is that 5-digit number? (6 marks)
Solution:
Let the fifth digit be X, then fourth digit =2X and third digit = 4X.
And also Second digit is 5 more than the last digit.
Therefore 2nd digit = X + 5
Also first digit = 4X * 2
It is clear from the above statements that the fifth digit must be 1.
Therefore the number is 86421. (Sure)

Solution:
Let the milestone be XY.
After an hour he saw a milestone numbered YX.
After another hour he saw a milestone numbered X0Y
The number is 16,61,106
(61-16) = (106-61) = 45
