INFOSYS PAPER ON 6th AUGUST 2006 AT HYDERABAD

This is Suvarna from Hyderabad..
I am quite happy as i passed through the written test by god's grace..I want god that samething to be repeated as i have interview tomarrow..
I attempted only 8 questions and i felt very bad that i could not manage time properly..
I left one 6 marks n one 4 marks question..
So, your approch n explanation are more important rather than no.of problems..
1.A passenger train takes 2 times as much as time to overtake the frieght car in opposite direction while it is travelling in same direction.Then how many times the passenger car would be faster compared to that of frieght car. ( 3M)
Ans: 3 times
Approach:
When the trains are travelling in the same direction..Relative velocity = x-y
" " " in OPPOSITE directions,relative velocity=x+y
Time and spped are inversely proportional,so we can form an eq as (x+y)/(x-y)=2/1
so..x=3y
ie 3 times faster.
2.He has given combined payments such as
painter n plumber=1100
plumber n cleaner=3300
likewise there are 7 persons and we have to calculate payment for each of them (4M)
3.Same old smith,magor,clark.jones and their occpations like policeman,grocer,druggist,butcher
Be careful that there are some unnecessary conditions given to confuse us.. (8M)
4. There are some trees in a forest.Each tree has birds as many number of trees in the forest..It is found that the birds are in between 2000 to 2100.
Find the number of trees Ans:45 (3/4m)
This was not as simple as this..It was somewhat complex in reading the problem. However the solution is very easy.
Approach: let the number of trees are "N"
then, the no.of birds will be NXN=N^2
and
it is given that total number of birds are in between 2000 n 2100.
so, a number in the range could be a square of a number.
2000-2100 range has squareroots in the range 40-50.
As this range i middle of 1600(40^2) to 2500(50^2)
So, let us start our trail with 45.
45X45=2025
Therefore the total number of trees are 45.
5.This is also from old papers like Nalanda,Solanpur,triloknagar..Likewise there are 5 stations out of which,2 are hillstations and 3 are on plane..
6.Goerge said.."i bought yellow banabnas @ 30 cents/bunch and the same number of red bananas @ 40 cents /each.
If i had divided the money evenly then i would have got 2 bunches" to Mr.James and he asked george "What is the amount?"
George replied "you hav to tell me the amount". Can you find what is the amount.
Ans:3360
Approach: Say there are X bunches of Yellow Bananas n X bunches of red bananas
Let 'N' be the amount
Case 1:30X+40X=N
ie X=N/70........................................(1)
Case 2:Let no.of bunches of Yellow n Red are A n B resp.
So,A+B=2X+2................(2)
and 30A=N/2
40B=N/2
=> A=N/60 and B=N/80
So,from (1) and (2),
N/60+N/80=2N/70+2
=> N=3360
7.Same old cow and bridge problrm..but i didn't practice..so, i left that (6M)
8.There are three children ann,eve and carl..
"Ann wears blue if and only if eve wears red,carl and ann cannot wear blue at a time n either eve or carl can wear red at a time not both"
Which color dress does ann wear?
Ans:RED
Approach: Take the case that ann wear blue dress., This will be possible if eve-RED and Carl cannot wear both red and blue.
So, Ann wears RED dress.
9.SLOWCOACH express starts from Mumbai to Amritsir everyday at 9:00hrs and the up n down journey takes 3 days and after 3 days it reach its destination at 9:30hrs.Suppose you are travelling in that express how many trains can you observe with the same name..
