National Events- 

  •  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath once again hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Speaking at an event organised by a news channel in Gorakhpur on Friday, Yogi took a jibe at the estranged relationship between Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav.

  •  Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav demanded resignation of Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni, for his alleged involvement in violence in Lakhimpur Kheri where nine people, including four farmers, were killed.

  •  To make a symbolic protest against the statement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a surprise visit to a Dalit hamlet in Lucknow on Friday and took up broom to clean the locality.

  •  Delhi’ still may be some distance away for Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-- who is being projected by her party Trinamool Congress as a strong contender for the Prime Minister’s post opposite Narendra Modi--but her admirers have already started projecting her as a Goddess so to say.

International Events- 

  •  International Criminal Court judges decided on Friday to ask the United Nations Secretary-General for information on who represents Afghanistan at international bodies following the Taliban’s sweep to power in August.

  •  Russia’s daily coronavirus death toll hit a new record on Friday amid the country’s sluggish vaccination rate and the Government’s reluctance to tighten restrictions. Russia’s state coronavirus task force reported 936 new deaths on Friday, the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic.

  •   Journalists Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia won the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for their fight for freedom of expression in countries where reporters have faced persistent attacks, harassment and even murder. “

  •  Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday expanded his Cabinet by inducting 17 Ministers and two Ministers of State from the five-party ruling alliance, three months after he assumed office. With this, the Government’s strength has now reached 25, including 22 Ministers and three Ministers of State.

  • A former Taliban commander, who had kidnapped an American journalist and kept him captive in Pakistan for several months before he managed to escape over a decade ago, has been charged in a superseding indictment with killing US troops in 2008.

Technology-

  •  realme, which is set to release its GT Neo 2 smartphone both in India and Europe, now plans to release another device from the GT lineup that will be powered by a customised version of MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset.

  •  Chipmaker AMD has published information about a pair of bugs that can reduce performance for Ryzen processors running Windows 11 by as much as 15 per cent.

  •  Apple has been rolling out the Apple TV app to many different platforms, including smart TVs as well as third-party streaming devices, and now the tech giant has started rolling out a scaled down "Apple TV+" app for select 2016 and 2017 LG smart TVs.

  •  E-commerce platforms, including social commerce and grocery players, have clocked $2.7 billion (more than Rs 20,000 crore) in the first four days of the festive week sale that started on October 2, new data showed on Saturday.

  • Samsung has announced that it will start producing customers' first 3nm-based chip designs in the first half of 2022, while its second generation of 3nm is expected in 2023.

Economy – 

  •  Mumbai on Saturday became the first metro city in the country to see diesel prices cross the Rs 100 per litre mark after fuel prices were hiked again.

  •  The Reserve Bank of India expectedly kept interest rates unchanged at a record low on Friday but signalled the start of tapering pandemic-era stimulus measures on economic recovery taking roots.

  •  The RBI’s decision to keep interest rates unchanged while continuing its accommodative stance is a prudent step in view of the uneven path of recovery momentum, India Inc said on Friday.

  •  The Sensex soared past the 60,000-level while the Nifty finished at an all-time high on Friday after the Reserve Bank kept the key interest rates unchanged but maintained its accommodative stance to bolster economic recovery. 

  • Air India’s sale to the Tata Group marks a new dawn for the airline, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Friday as he hoped that the carrier would continue to bring people closer through successful operations.

Local –

  •  The Delhi Police has arrested two people and seized over 420 kg illegal firecrackers when the duo was transporting it in a vehicle in north Delhi's Sadar Bazaar area.

  •  A single bench of Justice Rajesh Kumar of Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Sunil Tiwari in a sexual exploitation case where a girl working as a housemaid accused him of sexual exploitation.

  •  A two-day review meeting of the managers of all the branches under its Bhopal zone under the guidance of SSP Rai, Area General Manager, Bhubaneswar was held of Indian Bank, review meeting was organized in Indore on October 7 and in Bhopal on October 8.

  •  The Delhi Government has directed all private schools to ensure that their teaching and non-teaching staff are not allowed to attend school if they have not received the first dose of Covid-19, and treat their absence as being 'on leave', according to officials.

  • Even as daily Covid-19 cases are fluctuating in Odisha, the State Government on Friday said next three months would be crucial in preventing spread of virus. Health Director Bijay Mohapatra said October, November and December are very important and people should avoid crowded places and unnecessary travels.
