  •  Researchers worked on a key question regarding SARS-CoV-2 was whether it was behaving, or will behave, as a seasonal virus like influenza, or whether it will be equally transmitted during any time of the year.

  •  Former Jammu &  Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday sent a legal notice to former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik, seeking `10 crore in damages for making “vexatious, false motivated and incorrect” statement regarding her being a beneficiary of Roshni Act.

  •  Fresh exchange of firing was reported  after a gap of almost 48 hours  on the 12th day of the counter terrorist operation going on in the Nar Khas forest area of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch on Friday.

  • The Bengal Government has moved into an alert mode following spike in corona cases post the festivities. The State has witnessed more than 1,000 new cases in the past 48 hours with Capital Kolkata alone witnessing 319 cases between Thursday and Friday, sources said adding the number of cases are likely to go up further.

  • Kerala logged 9,361 new Covid-19 cases and 99 deaths on Friday, pushing the infection count to 48,88,678 and the death toll to 27,765. According to a release, 9,401 people recuperated from the disease today, taking the total cured in the state to 47,88,629.

International Events- 

  •  Myanmar’s junta has re-arrested more than 100 anti-coup protesters freed in a recent amnesty, according to a local monitoring group that tracks detentions and killings.

  •  Forty-three countries have called on China to “ensure full respect for the rule of law” for the Muslim Uyghur community in Xinjiang, in a statement read at the United Nations on Thursday that sparked outrage from Beijing.

  •  The US is concerned about the Chinese hypersonic missiles, President Joe Biden has said, days after a media report claimed that China recently tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile that caught America’s intelligence by surprise.

  •  Coronavirus infections and deaths in Russia climbed on Friday to another pandemic record, putting a growing strain on the country’s health care system.

  • China on Friday said there is “no room” for compromise or concessions over the issue of Taiwan, following a comment by US President Joe Biden that the US is committed to defending the island if it is attacked.

Technology-

  •  Facebook-owned Instagram is testing new tools to make it easier for creators to earn money through its service. The app is now testing affiliate shops, a feature it first previewed at its Creator Week event in June, and a dedicated "partnerships" inbox, reports Engadget.

  •  Google Meet is rolling out a new feature that would let the meeting host to turn off participants' microphones or cameras. "The meeting host is the only user in a meeting who can use the 'mute all' feature. Once all participants are muted, the meeting host cannot unmute them. However, users will be able to unmute themselves as needed. The mute all feature will only be available for hosts who are joining from a desktop browser, but will be launching on other platforms in the coming months," Google said in a blog post.

  •  Realme recently launched the GT Neo 2 in China and also unveiled the Buds Air 2 TWS earphones. Both the devices had one thing in common: the green colour variants.

Economy – 

  • Even though the six-member Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India was unanimous in retaining the repo rate at its last meeting, not all members were in consonance for maintaining the accommodative stance. 

  •  The Government on Friday claimed that retail onion prices are not extraordinarily high to necessitate banning export of the key kitchen staple and buffer stock are being released to cool down the prices further while prices of food oils are still low despite the high international prices. On the other hand, experts say the higher prices of food oils will continue in the festive season and will start softening from December with arrival of new crops and a possible decline in global rates

  •  The country’s foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 1.492 billion to reach USD 641.008 billion in the week ended October 15, RBI data showed on Friday.

  •  Yes Bank on Friday reported a rise of 74.3 per cent in its net profit for Q2FY22 on a year-on-year basis. The lender’s net profit during the preiod under review rose to `225 crore from `129 crore for Q2FY21.

  • Department of Telecommunication (DoT),has by way of gazette notification, amended Indian Telegraph RoW Rules November, 2016 to prescribe various terms and conditions for laying overhead Optical Fiber Cable (OFC).
