National Events- 

  •  An estimated 49.60 per cent of 5,84,395 voters exercised their franchise in the by-elections to two assembly constituencies in Bihar till the end of polling at 4 pm on Saturday, the Election Commission said.

  •  Two Indian Army personnel, including one officer, succumbed to their fatal injuries in a mysterious blast along the line of control in Kalal area of Nowshera in frontier Rajouri district of Jammu division on Saturday. 

  •  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached two Immovable properties worth ` 2.62 crore situated at Ranchi, Jharkhand belonging to Patliputra Builders Limited under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

  • Children who are exposed to a certain type of environmental air pollution are more likely to contract community-acquired pneumonia or CAP, and to be hospitalised for longer periods of time, said a new study led by researchers in the Louisiana State University Superfund Research Program.

  •  The United Nations and the United States urged Sudan’s top generals to allow pro-democracy protests and avoid confrontations in the wake of a military coup earlier this week.

  •  The UN humanitarian chief had a dire message for leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies meeting this weekend: Worry about Afghanistan because its economy is collapsing and half the population risks not having enough food to eat as the snows have already started to fall. 

  •  President Joe Biden and a trio of European allies strategised on Saturday over ways to achieve a diplomatic solution as Iran continues to make troubling advances with its nuclear programme.

  • For years, Zebulon Simentov branded himself as the “last Jew of Afghanistan,” the sole remnant of a centuries-old community. He charged reporters for interviews and held court in Kabul’s only remaining synagogue. He left the country last month for Istanbul after the Taliban seized power. 

  • Sudanese security forces shot dead two people on Saturday during mass protests against the country’s recent military coup, a doctors’ union said. The shootings came despite repeated appeals by the West to Sudan’s new military rulers to show restraint and allow peaceful protests.

    Economy – 

  • The combined market valuation of nine of the top-10 most valued companies fell by Rs 2,48,542.3 crore last week in line with a weak broader market trend, with Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank emerging as the biggest laggards. 

  •  Healthy demand has restored India Inc’s business confidence in Q3 of 2021, according to the Global Economic Conditions Survey (GECS) report. This is the largest regular economic survey of accountants and finance professionals around the world jointly carried out quarterly by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).According to the survey report, outlook for the South Asian region has risen mainly due to better prospects in India.

  •  Italy’s Premier Mario Draghi opened a conference of the world’s powerhouse economies with a sharp call to pick up the pace in getting vaccines to poor countries, calling the gaping global Covid-19 vaccine gap “morally unacceptable.” Draghi, the host for the two-day Group of 20 summit in Rome, said Saturday that only 3% of people in the world’s poorest countries are vaccinated, while 70% in rich countries have had at least one shot.

  •  Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India in association with Hotel and Restaurant Association of North India has announced the launch of a scholarship programme for students interested in pursuing a 3-year B.Sc in hospitality and hotel administration from the FHRAI Institute of Hospitality Management Greater Noida.

  • Innovation is more than just a buzzword for the Indian incense industry. With this in mind, Mysore Deep Perfumery House’s Zed Black has launched charcoal-free agarbatti Aromix - ‘Fusion Incense Sticks. “This is a next level of innovation,” said Anshul Agrawal, Director, Zed Black.

  • The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has sanctioned a Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) and five research rural health research projects in Chhattisgarh. MRHRU will be set up at Jhinth in Patan block of Durg district, the funds for which will be provided by ICMR. 

  •  The Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya and Khanpur MLA Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ were reportedly upset with the arrangements during the Union Home minister Amit Shah’s visit.

  •  A satellite centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh will be established in Udham Singh Nagar district on land provided by the state government. This satellite centre of AIIMS Rishikesh will provide all necessary medical treatment facilities for patients of the Kumaon region.

  •  Former Chief Minister and head of election campaign committee of Congress in Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat was at the target of an assault by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In his speech Shah challenged Rawat for a debate on the development.

  • Cautioning against voting Congress to power the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sought five more years from the people of Uttarakhand for Bharatiya Janata Party.
