National Events- 

  •  India logged 24,354 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 3,37,91,061, while the active cases declined to 2,73,889, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Saturday.

  •  It turned out to be a Black Friday in Kerala as the State witnessed a cold-blooded murder of a 21-year-old girl by her collegemate of the same age allegedly for spurning the latter’s proposal for love.

  •  The trial runs for the Mumbai Metro-3 –involving the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor --will begin sometime in January 2022, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) announced here on Friday.

  •  The Mumbai police in the charge sheet filed in the Sakinaka rape and murder case has stated that the accused had been acquainted with the victim, who had been avoiding him, which prompted him to track her down and attack her, sources said on Friday. 

  • A newly recruited terrorist belonging to the Pakistan based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was eliminated by the joint team of security forces in the Rakhama area of Shopian while  two LeT terrorists were apprehended by the security forces from two different locations in Pulwama and Shopian districts of South Kashmir

International Events- 

  •  Iran's national Army began exercises on Friday near its border with Azerbaijan, state TV reported, putting on a display of military capabilities near a neighbor it is increasingly skeptical of its ties to the West and Israel.

  •  The U.S. Military expects to begin receiving new Afghanistan evacuees in the United States next week, as thousands begin to wrap up a three-week pause in Europe and the Middle East to get measles shots.

  •  The Islamic State's Afghanistan affiliate, dubbed Islamic State Khorasan or ISIS-K, has claimed responsibility for the killing of a well-known Sikh 'Hakeem in Pakistan's restive north-western city of Peshawar.

  •  More than 15,000 people from Myanmar are estimated to have crossed the border into India since the February 1 military coup there, UN chief Antonio Guterres has said, telling the General Assembly in a report that armed clashes have erupted mostly in regions and states along the borders with Thailand, China and India and are raising concern about regional implications of the crisis.

  • Taking a cue from MI6, the Taliban has now created over 300 WhatsApp and Telegram with non-Taliban members in countries like Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Russia among others to radicalize the local people in these countries and get them affiliated with the Taliban.

  •  Flamboyant opener Smriti Mandhana shattered a few records en route to slamming a magnificent maiden Test century as India progressed to 231/3 in the second day's opening session of the day/night match against Australia here on Friday.

  •  Tech giant Google has stopped working on its Plex service, which aimed to let users do their banking through the Google Pay app, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has reported.

  •  Electric vehicle company Tesla has deployed its first two Supercharger stations in Morocco, marking its first entry into the African market.

  •  Microsoft is all set to launch its Windows 11 operating system next week on October 5.

  • Apple has released iOS 15.0.1 today and it is the first official update for the iPhone after the iOS 15 that was released last month.

Economy – 

  •  India’s sugar export rose 20 percent to an all-time high of 7.1 million tonnes in the 2020-21 marketing year ended last month on the back of better demand and financial assistance from the government, industry body ISMA said on Friday. 

  •  The Department of Telecom has canceled letters of intent (LoIs) issued to 71 firms for providing internet service as virtual network operators, as per an official note issued on Friday.

  •  The rapid growth of the crypto ecosystem presents new opportunities, the IMF has said but also cautioned that the digital currency assets pose financial stability challenges.

  •  India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection remained above the Rs 1-lakh-crore mark for a third straight month in September at over Rs  1.17 lakh crore, the Finance Ministry said on Friday.

  •  The 30-share BSE Sensex opened on the backfoot and stayed in the negative zone throughout the session, ending 360.78 points or 0.61 percent lower at 58,765.58. On similar lines, the broader NSE Nifty declined 86.10 points or 0.49 percent to close at 17,532.05.
