  •  A kisan mahapanchayat, held at Azad Maidan here on the death anniversary of Mahatma Jotirao Phule, called for the defeat of the BJP in all upcoming Assembly elections and local body polls in Maharashtra.

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said he had warned a ministerial colleague who is in the eye of a storm for making a controversial statement about “upper caste women”. 

  •  Barely a fortnight before international flights were to resume in India, growing concern over Omicron, the new Covid-19 variant, has forced the government to rethink the decision. The Centre has now decided to review the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services, a Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson said Sunday.

  •  National People’s Party leader Agatha Sangma on Sunday demanded the repeal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at a meeting of NDA allies convened ahead of the Winter session of Parliament.

  • Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday attacked the Yogi Adityanath dispensation over the cancellation of the Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test following leakage of its question paper, alleging that corruption in recruitment has become the identity of the BJP government.

International Events- 

  • Pope Francis appealed on Sunday for authorities to “respect the humanity” of migrants and strive to help them, after Britain and France traded barbs over the deaths of 27 migrants as they tried to cross the Channel. 

  •  Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers unveiled a new set of restrictions on Afghan media earlier this week, banning television channels from showing dramas and soap operas featuring women actors.

  •  Uganda is seeking to amend a loan agreement it signed with China in 2015 to ensure the government doesn’t lose control of the nation’s only international airport, the Monitor newspaper reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

  •  Taiwan’s air force scrambled again on Sunday to warn away 27 Chinese aircraft that entered its air defence zone, Taiwan’s defence ministry said, the latest increase in tensions across the Taiwan Strait as China’s president met his top generals.

  • Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday introduced new legislation that would require social media giants to provide the details of users who post defamatory material online.

Economy – 

  •  The Enforcement Directorate has been investigating whether there were any violations of foreign investment laws when Amazon made a $200 million investment in Future's gift voucher unit, Future Coupons, in 2019.

  •  The effort of the Central government, along with states, is to eliminate burdensome compliances, reduce the need for licensing and rationalise the renewal process with an aim to promoting ease of doing business, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said Saturday.

  •  As the government gets closer to opening the curtains on its Bill to regulate cryptocurrencies, the crypto exchange industry hopes for a balance between protection of India’s financial stability and the innovation possible from the blockchain technology. Ashish Singhal, co-chair of Blockchain and Crypto Assets Council (BACC) and Founder & CEO of CoinSwitch Kuber, told Pranav Mukul and Sandeep Singh about the factors that led to the proliferation of crypto investments in the country and the future of crypto exchanges.

  •  The World Trade Organization (WTO) has postponed its crucial meet of trade ministers from various countries — scheduled to start from November 30 in Geneva — for a second time, after an outbreak of a new strain of the Covid-19 virus led several governments to impose travel curbs.

  • While foreign investors exited from stocks worth Rs 25,000 crore ($3.34 billion) in the last six sessions, DIIs accumulated stocks worth Rs 12,818 crore during the same period. Domestic institutions have been using every major correction to buy into stocks and reshuffle their portfolios. The benchmark Sensex nosedived 2,901 points, or 4.83 per cent, to 57,107.15 in the last six session

  •  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday, requesting him to stop international flights from regions seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases.

  •  A week after the District Collector of Beed started a ‘No vaccine, no entry’ policy, over 40,000 more people took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine than the previous week.

  •  West Bengal recorded 701 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. With this latest rise, Bengal’s Covid-19 infection tally has gone up to 16,14,152 cases. Eleven new deaths were recorded in the state, taking the toll to 19,450.

  •  Tamil Nadu has intensified precautionary measures at all four international airports in the state in the wake of the detection of the new Covid-19 virus variant ‘Omicron’ in South Africa and has appointed four health department officials to personally monitor the situation, State Minister Ma Subramanian said in Chennai on Saturday.

  • With the new coronavirus variant named Omicron (B.1.1529) being reported from several countries and new clusters of Covid-19 infection reported from different districts in the last few days, the Karnataka government has decided to intensify surveillance measures.
