National Events- 

  •  A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in this district of Uttar Pradesh, a police official said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday in a village under the Barkhera police station limits, police said.

  • The monsoon is over but several parts of the country especially southern States and north west India have witnessed heavy to heavy rainfall since October which caused loss of life and properties worth hundreds of crores. 

  • The CBI has terminated from service a head constable posted in the headquarters for alleged molestation of a contractual cleaner under Article 311 of the Constitution without conducting an enquiry against the accused personnel. 

  • In an effort to further strengthen defence and strategic ties between the two countries, Army Chief General MM Naravane will hold talks with his Israeli counterparts on bilateral issues during his visit commencing Sunday. 

  • Liquor companies have urged the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government in Bihar to end prohibition in the State. It has also suggested several steps to the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to ensure his avowed goals of helping women is achieved without adverse fallouts of prohibition.

International Events- 

  •  Almost 200 nations accepted a compromise deal Saturday aimed at keeping a key global warming target alive, but it contained a last-minute change that watered down crucial language about coal. 

  •  British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hailed the deal struck at the end of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow as a “big step forward” and the first-ever international agreement to “phase down” the use of coal.

  •  The departure of Mako Komuro, the former Princess Mako, and Kei Komuro, both 30, was carried live by major Japanese broadcasters, showing them boarding a plane amid a flurry of camera flashes at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

  •  At least nine people, including eight teachers and a student, were injured on Sunday in an avalanche in Nepal. The avalanche at the Tukuche mountain hit the Thisang Rural Municipality of the country’s northwestern Mustang district.

  • The Austrian Government ordered a nationwide lockdown for unvaccinated people starting midnight Sunday to slow the fast spread of the coronavirus in the country.

  •  Realme is all set to give competition to other smartphone makers in the high-end smartphone segment.

  •  Google Cloud on Monday said it has hired senior IBM executive Subram Natarajan as Director of Customer Engineering for its India operations.

  • IBM and Amazon say they have solved the problem of data localisation in oil producing countries. Using IBM’s OpenShift, oil firms can use the oil-industry cloud data

Economy – 

  •  The wholesale price-based inflation spiked to 12.54 percent in October, mainly due to the rise in prices of manufactured products and crude petroleum. WPI inflation has remained in double digit for the seventh consecutive month beginning April.

  • The current month will continue to be a busy one for the primary market, as two companies-Tarsons Products and Go Fashion (India) Ltd -are set to float their IPOs next week to collectively raise Rs  2,038 crore. 

  •  Stock markets will focus on global trends for further direction in this holiday-shortened week as the earnings season is largely over, analysts said.

  •  The Income Tax department on Sunday said taxpayers can now access the new Annual Information Statement (AIS),which includes additional categories of information like interest, dividends, securities and MF transactions, and remittances from abroad, on the e-filing portal.The I-T department had last month expanded the list of high-value financial transactions, which would be available to taxpayers in their Form 26AS by including details of mutual fund (MF) purchases, foreign remittances, as well as information in ITRs of other taxpayers.

  • India’s coal import rose by 12.6 per cent to 107.34 million tonnes in the first six months of 2021-22.
