India Coast Guard -PPDT(Picture Perception and Discussion Test Tips and Tricks

IN PPDT a hazy picture will be shown to you which will be describing some situation and you will be made to write story on the picture .

The picture perception test is a psychological and perception test designed to make people aware of their surroundings and how they view the world.

It is supposed to teach people how to glean important information about their surroundings in a very short amount of time.

It is most often used by the Indian Army and Navy when they are training and testing new recruits as a part of their Services Selection Board.

This process with the Indian Armed Forces assesses the compatibility of each potential soldier.

The Picture Perception Test

The test consists of two parts; during the first part of the test candidates are shown a picture for 30 seconds.

They are not allowed to write anything down but must remember as much as possible about the picture, taking in every detail.

The candidate is then asked to write their impressions of the picture, of who they think the main character in the picture is, the main character's expression and surroundings.

After this they are asked to write about 70 words as a story based on the picture.

The second part of the test involves discussing the picture as a group, where differences in perception will become clear between each candidate.

Cracking the test-making it very difficult to prepare for.......advice cannot be given on how to pass the test other than to keep your concentration and stay calm

Tips and Tricks
Your story should be around, what lead to the situation what is going in the situation and what will be the outcome of the situation.

You should not describe the picture itself.

Preferably, make a story which yields positive output.

Narration and Discussion part of the story

After writing story candidates are made to sit in groups of around 8 to 16 candidates in each group for narration and discussion of the story.

Tricks and tips
While narrating the story, the key of success is confidence apart from it clear, loud voice good communication skills and positive body language also play vital role in impressive narration.

In short, if you tell the right story at the right time, interviewers will “just feel good” about you, regardless of how many other candidates they interview. “The great challenge of selling is making an emotional connection with the buyer,” says Bosworth.

Step #1: Select the Right Story

Step #2: Create a Brief Setup

Every great story begins with three elements:

1. A person who is going to do something (i.e., you)

2. A place where the action will happen

3. A time that anchors the story in the real world

It adds emotion (and therefore memorability) if you briefly flesh out these elements

Step #3: Identify the Goal, the Obstacle, the Decision, and the Outcome

Every memorable story has a plot, which consists of four elements:

1. A goal that must be achieved

2. An obstacle that prevents the goal from being achieved

3. A decision that makes it possible to achieve the goal

4. A result that comes about because you made that decision

How to Tell Your Story

When it comes to actually telling your story, there are two crucial rules:

Rule #1: Signal that you’re going to tell a story.
Rule #2: Keep it short and sweet.

DISCUSSION
The most important part of the screening test called discussion of the story. The 90% of the selection in screening is based on the discussion of the story.

How to crack the Competitive Exams?

Competitive exams have become a strict norm for selection to various professional courses in our country-a reality for the lakhs of students who appear in them every year.

In such a scenario, everyone wants to success. Success in these exams brings immense glory and confidence to the individuals, besides giving them a clear cut break into the career line of their choice. However, seats are limited and not everyone who appears can be selected. This does not mean that those who are not selected do not deserve a training in these courses. It only means that there aren't sufficient seats to accommodate all the deserving candidates.

Keeping this background in mind, let us explore what it takes to succeed in these competitive exams:

To my mind, the first prerequisite for success in these examinations is determination.

The candidate must be quite sure of his level of motivation.
Without a high level of motivation, no one can go through the rigorous preparation process. Thus, you must be absolutely determined to give your best efforts in your endeavor.

Once one is sufficiently motivated, one needs to be ready to give sufficient number of hours of his or her time in studies. This is real hard work and involves significant sacrifices on the part of the individual.

The third requirement, is selection of the right study material

One should not go for shortcuts. Instead, try to understand the chapters / concepts in detail and the key to success would be  practicing the concepts along with  time management. Wide acceptance of Online exams in the Government and Private sector is inevitable and  you will have to practice in the similar pattern to have a virtual yet real experience before attending the test.

The fourth consideration is an appropriate 'Study Strategy'. Of course, you may not be able to complete all the practice material for one test but clear the concepts. You can use the rest of the practice material for revision and self evaluation at a later time. As the examinations come closer, practicing previous years papers is also key to doing well in these examinations.

Also revise the important concepts, facts, problems that you would have marked during  your years of preparation before the examination.

Fifth consideration is Stay focused

And last but not least is Don’t give up: If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. Don’t give up just because you tasted failure in your first attempt. Instead, use this as motivation to do better the next time, and use your experience to avoid making the same mistakes that cost you success the last time you took the exam.

On the day of examination, keep your cool and attempt the questions. Remember, if you have given your best during the last preparation period, you need not fear anything. Ultimately, only effort and not the result is in your hand. Which you should do to your maximum capability as outlined above. Rest is your destiny or luck. So go ahead, give your best and leave the rest!

Happy preparing!!
