Data interpretation, as itself suggests, deals with the interpretation of data provided in various forms. This numerical data is represented by using tables, graphs and graphics.
TABULAR DATA INTERPRETATION
In this type data is arranged in the form of tables in horizontal rows and vertical columns
Example:
Data relating to total subsidy, LPG subsidy, and LPG usage by residents of various states in India. It is given that, the data and questions deal with household consumers and all LPG sale is covered by subsidy ,which is same inside every state. The subsidy given on a cylinder is in direct proportion to its weight.
State | Total Subsidy per year (in crores rupees) | LPG subsidy as a percentage of Total subsidy | Average subsidy per connection per month (in rupees) | Usage level Per year per connection |
Delhi | 100 | 20 | 320 | 30 |
U.P | 840 | 15 | 350 | 15 |
Maharashtra | 520 | 18 | 310 | 18 |
Uttaranchal | 310 | 10 | 300 | 20 |
Bihar | 550 | 12 | 325 | 12 |
1. It is given that every consumer has only one connection, then what is the total number of LPG consumers in Bihar?
A. 2.03lakhs    B. 1.69lakhs   C. 0.141lakhs    D. 1.03lakhs
LPG subsidy for Bihar = (550*12)/100 No. Of Consumers = (550*12)/(100*325*12) = 1.69 lakhs Hence (b) is the answer.
2. According to the given data what is the value of subsidy on small cylinders in LPG market in India given that, Delhi accounts for 2% of total LPG market in India in terms of total subsidy on LPG and 60% of subsidy on LPG goes towards small cylinders and these small cylinders in turn account for 80% of LPG market in India?
A. 200crore    B. 600crore  C. 1500crore     D. 2500crore
LPG subsidy for Delhi = 20% of 100 Crores =20Crores
This accounts for 2% of LPG subsidy in India.
Hence LPG subsidy for India is 20x50=1000Crores
Now Subsidy on small cylinders is 60% of total subsidy ie. 1000x60/100 =600Crores
3. Which of the following is NOT TRUE?
i) Subsidy per unit of LPG is higher for Maharashtra than that of Uttaranchal
ii) LPG consumption per person is least for Bihar (among given states)
iii) The amount of subsidy usage through LPG is highest for Uttar Pradesh(among given states)
A. iii only    B. ii only    C. i & iii        D. None of these
By observation we can conclude that (i) is false and (iii) is true. But (ii) statement cant be exactly determined therefore (d) is the answer.
4. Which of the given state has the highest LPG subsidy per consumer?
A. Maharashtra    B. Bihar        C. Delhi          D. U.P For Delhi
LPG subsidy per consumer= (100 x 20)/(100x320x12) = 0.0052
For U.PLPG subsidy per consumer = (840x15)/(100x350x12) = 0.03
For MaharashtraLPG subsidy per consumer = (520x18)/(100x310x12) = 0.0251
For UttaranchalLPG subsidy per consumer = (310x10)/(100x300x12) = 0.0086
For BiharLPG subsidy per consumer = (550x12)/(100x325x12) = 0.0169
Therefore U.P has the greatest LPG subsidy per consumer
5. What is the number of government employees in Bihar, given that, government employees form 5% of total population and the number of LPG connection per person is .04?
A. 2.75lakhs     B. 5.86lakhs     C. 70.42lakhs    D. 51lakhs
No. Of LPG consumers in Bihar = (550x12)/(100x325x12x12) = 1.69 lakhs
No. Of government employees = (1.69x100)/(5x0.04x12)=70.42lakhs
