My name is Rahul.
I have done my BTech in CSE Branch, 2010. I attended TCS campus drive in Noida. All questions are being given with huge passage of irrelevant data. So, focus is needed while answering. So understanding whatever question wants in a less time need a focus. No verbal, no reasoning, only quantitative.
Paper Pattern.
No need to read the whole passage just read what question is asking and read only those lines. The best thing in this is you need not to search for the questions whether you have answered them or not by scrolling. A window on righ side of the questions paper will display the status. The unanswered will be in RED and answered will be in GREEN and this minimises the searching time. So it is an online paper and feel free to tension because speed of computer will be good. No GRE Barron, no other book. Only need to know basics of general quantitative like
* Area and Perimeter
* Probability (Many questions from this chapter).
* Problems on Ages (Many questions from this chapter).
* Pipes and Cisterns
* Ratio and Proportion
And some logical questions
1/3 Negative marking will be allowed.
Important instruction:
The test will be comprise 35 question in 60 min. So Basic need is just to cross cutoff. So here accuracy is important because TCS is selection on the bases of accuracy not the no of question. But i think one should attempt at least 17 questions right. For cracking paper its beter to attempt simple question so if you stuck somewhere then move forward and attempt another one, believe me in my paper there were 15 questions which were so simple to answer.
Memory based paper.
1. 1st a story. Then a simple ratio problem. The question was if the ratio of age of two persons is 5:6,sum of present age is 33,then in how many years the ratio of their age becomes 7:8?
a)3 b)4 c)5 d)6
2. Arrange the jumbled letters to make a perfect word RGTEI(sth like this). Find to which category it belong? (plz do not attempt if u do'nt knowthese type q becoz its time consuming)
A)town b)vegetable c)animal d) bird
3. Simple question bt big one on average age.sth like a,b,c weigheted separately 1st a,b,c ,then a& b,then b&c ,then c&a at last abc,the last weight was 167,then what will be the avg weight of the 7 weight?
4. Simple puzzle based on IQ
3 persons a,b,c were there A always says truth,B lies on Monday,tusday,& Wednesday.but C lies on thrusday,Friday & saturday .one day A saidthat B & C said to A that B said yesterday way one of the days when I lies,C said thatyesterday way one of the days when I lies too.then which day was that?
Ans: a Sunday
5. An athlete decides to run the same distance in 1/4th less time that she usually took. By how much percent will she have to increase her average speed?
Answer: 33.33%
6. A girl has to make pizza with different toppings. There are 8 different toppings. In how many ways can she make pizzas with 2 different toppings.
Answer: 8 * 7 = 56
7. A triangle is made from a rope. The sides of the triangle are A cm, B cm and C cm. (I do not remember the numerical value). What will be the area of the square made from the same rope?
8. Peter and Paul are two friends. The sum of their ages is 35 years. Peter is twice as old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?
Luckily, I had this question twice. Initially I left it because of the confusing statement but when I got the same question second time with different names of the friends (Pooja and Prasad) then I gave a little extra time and solved it.
Answer: 20 years. I simply substituted the answers in the statement to find the best fit, because the statement in the question was pretty confusing.
9. A scientist was researching on animal behavior in his lab. He was very interested in analyzing the behavior of bear. For some reason he travelled 1mile in north direction & reached at north pole.there he saw a bear .he then followed the bear around 1 hr with a speed of 2km/hr in east direction.After that he travelled in south direction & reached at his lab in2 hrs. Then what is the colour of the bear? ans is white
10. 2 pots are there.1st pot is filled with ink and 2nd pot is filled with water.take 1 spoon of ink from 1st pot and pore it in 2nd pot.and take 1 spoon of mixture from 2nd pot and pore it in 2nd pot then which one of following is true?
Ans: Water in 1st pot is less than the ink in 2nd pot.
11. A toy train can make 10 sounds sound changes after every 4 min, now train is defective and can make only 2 sounds. Find probability that same sound is repeated 3 times consecutively (1 out of)?
1. 16 2. 8 3. 12 4. 4
Ans: (1/2)*(1/2)*(1/2) = (1/8)
Lots of question based on probability all one tricky so do them on your risk.
12. Series Problem like 4 12 8 26 16 56 32 x ..? find x Ans is 120 because it is two series not a single one look at first series 4 8 16 32 ..... n second one 12 26 56 x. means 12 (12*2+2) (26*2+4) (56*2+8). Lots of question may be on Fibonacci series so have a look concept also.
13. Some question based on Dice and Cubes but unfortunately i forget those questions.
Technical Interview:
I got my interview schedule after four days in TCS Office Noida but lots of frends got dere schedule on the day of paper. So be prepared mentally for interview n yeah be well dressed it makes really a positive impact.
The interviewer was a beautiful lady the near about 28 years old.She welcomed me when i entered in the room.My interview continued till 20mins.Imp Instruction if u r from Non cs background den u can say u don't have much idea about s/w field then they asked u about ur subjects but u have to impress him by knowledge of ur field n give them assurance that u will do really good at a time of ur training.
* Tell me about ur self?(u have to tell about u n ur family background)
* My strength n weakness.(Be prepared for this question).
* About My final year project. (You have to tell whatever you done, its depend on. So whatever you speak be confident)
* About summer training.(U have to specify about whatever u learn there they can ask u simple ques regarding training)
* MY favourite subjects(I told DBMS, so she asked me about languages used in DBMS, Sql queries, and about normalization etc.) ( It's really simple beccause this is in your hand to tell a specific subject and they will ask you simple questions regarding your subject. It's not necessary to give answer of all questions if you don't know say confidently i don't know.)
* She asked me About computer languages i said, i am comfortable in C and C++. So she asked me what is a different between C and C++, Oops concepts, Different between Static and final, write a program for palindrome. (Prepared for Some program Like (palindrome, Fibonacci, Recursion, Strings, Factorial etc.)
* Generally they asked about your CV stuffs so make your CV according to your comfort zone. May be they can ask something different from your CV but in that case you can easily say i have no idea. In my case they asked about Unix commands.
Frankly speaking interview was so good because you have need to show that you technically sounds better. So be prepared for the interview.
After technical we called for MR(Managerial round)
It was just a 7-8 min round.
They can ask you technical or puzzles or about your hobbies anything. So don't worry for this round.
* The interviewer asked me about my hobbies, my family background.
* He gave me a puzzle like (a candle burns in 60min. Then how can two candles can burn in 90min. Ans we can burn a candle first n in 60 min this will burn completely den we will burn second one from both of end so it would take 90 min to burn both of candles.)
* Then he suddenly changed the question and said now you have 45 min to burn both of candles and i couldn't do but he gave me 4 min to solve and insisted me luckily i got the right answer and i replied. we would burn first candle from both of end and at same time we would burn second candle from starting point so in 30 min the first one will burn completely and second will burn half then we will burn second burning candle from another point also, So in this way both of candles will burn in 45min.
* He asked me to write a simple C program to add two numbers and picked a questons like roll of void main(),getch(),and about some header files.
Guys if you are worry about puzzles then frankly speaking look for some basic puzzles of Shakuntla Devi. My be they can ask you puzzle.
HR Round:
This round was just of 2-3 minutes.
* They asked me how was my Technical round.
* Have i been placed in anywhere else(I replied yeah in infosys also, i don't know what impact of this would be on her)
* Then she asked if i would been placed in infosys then why would i join TCS(i replied because of work culture and ethics in TCS)
* At last she said me "Ok rahul we have done, you can go now".
So, HR round was just a formality. Guys frankly speaking this time TCS is hiring in bulk. So those who have been given all the rounds they all were selected but most important part is written test. So if you have cleared the written then your 90% job is done. Finally i got my confirmation letter via mail after a week.
