Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the recruitment of the candidates into the special class apprentices in the Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. SCRA si considered as one of the high profile & reputed examinations conducted by UPSC, the selection criterion of which is one of the toughest.Since then, the few admission seats for one of the country's first engineering college have always hotly contested, with as many as 1.5 to 2 lakhs candidates taking the entrance examination. The examination comprises of a written test in mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language, General Knowledge and Psychological test. The selected candidates are called for an interview, which is followed by a medical examination. The standard of syllabus is that of Class XII (CBSE equivalent).
