NATIONAL

  • India, US sign three pacts in health and oil sectors. Another memorandum of understanding on the safety of medical products was signed between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization with the US Food and Drug Administration. A letter of cooperation was signed between Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Exxon Mobil India LNG Limited and Chart Industries Inc, US.

 

ECONOMY

  • Display of ‘best before date’ on non-packaged sweets by local vendors mandatory now: FSSAI. From June, even local sweet shops will have to display the ‘best before date’ and ‘date of manufacturing’ on non-packaged or loose sweets kept in a container or tray for sale at their outlets.
  • DPIIT notifies 100% FDI in insurance intermediaries under automatic route. The FDI policy earlier allowed 49% foreign investment in the insurance sector, which includes insurance intermediaries.
  • Intuit to buy Credit Karma in a cash-and-stock deal for about $7.1 billion. Credit Karma was valued at about $4 billion based on its last funding round in March 2018, led by private equity firm Silver Lake. Credit Karma is also backed by financial-technology venture firm Ribbit Capital.

 

INTERNATIONAL

  • World’s oldest man, Chitetsu Watanabe, dies at 112. Guinness World Records had given the certificate of being the oldest man to Japanese Chitetsu Watanabe on Feb 12.
  • Pioneering NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson dies at 101. Johnson was one of those who solved equations by hand during NASA's early years and those of its precursor organization, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
